Mistakes to Avoid When Cooking Steak

Mistakes to Avoid When Cooking Steak

by Mark Erb September 06, 2017

There’s nothing like enjoying a nice, big, juicy steak at the end of a long day. When prepared properly, steak is one of the most delicious foods you will ever eat. But unfortunately, there are a number of mistakes that people tend to make when cooking a steak. It all starts with buying the steak from the wrong place. Far too many people choose to simply buy steak at the supermarket rather than going to a butcher or a trusted steak seller that specializes in delivering 100 percent grass fed steaks. You should avoid making that mistake at all costs if you are in the mood for a steak tonight. Here are some other mistakes you should avoid making.

Taking the steak right out of the fridge and cooking it.

Do you typically take your steak out of the fridge and throw it right into your frying pan or right onto your grill? Regardless of whether you are preparing a thin strip steak or something much thicker, this is the wrong approach to take. You should always take your steak out of the refrigerator for at least half an hour, if not longer. This will get it ready to be cooked.

Failing to season it properly.

You can’t season the inside of a steak. So don’t be afraid to go a little bit wild with the seasoning that you add to the outside of it. Many people only use a small amount of seasoning and then wonder why they don’t taste it once they bite into their steak. When you put seasoning on a steak, you should be able to see it all over the steak. That’s not to say that you should dump a bunch of spice rubs on the steak and hope for the best. Nevertheless, if you’re going to use a seasoning, don’t be shy with it at all.

Slicing it as soon as it comes out of the pan or off the grill.

We get it. You’re hungry, and you want to start eating your steak as soon as it’s done cooking. But after cooking a steak, it’s best to let it sit for between 5 and 15 minutes to let all of the juices inside the steak settle. This will result in a much more flavorful steak. And don’t worry, your steak will not get cold when it’s just sitting there. All of the heat you need will stay trapped inside of it.

Would you like to get your hands on some of the best steaks you’ve ever tasted? Wilderness Ranch can provide you with 100 percent grass fed steaks that are free of any drugs or hormones. Call us at 519-504-5102 today to place an order.
